Fritz Haber t.1: L’esprit du temps

Voici une grande BD. D’abord par les qualités de peintre de David Vandermeulen: entièrement traitée dans les tons sépia, et usant de textes en bandeaux plutôt que des traditionnels phylactères, la narration graphique mêle admirablement chatoiement et économie de moyens. Par le sujet ensuite : première biographie en français de Fritz Haber (1868-1934), chimiste réputé, au destin ambigu et passionnant. Allemand d’origine juive, Fritz Haber, plein d’ambition et en proie à « l’esprit du temps », choisit de se convertir au protestantisme pour faciliter sa carrière. Nationaliste allemand convaincu, il se mit entre autres au service de l’armée, et participa aux premiers pas du tristement célèbre conglomérat I.G. Farben. Ce premier volume augure bien de la complexité d’un homme et de l’époque qui le forgea.
